[ AMBITION ]

Built to move the needle.

Our ambition is simple: more abatement, at greater scale, faster.

We’ve been developing carbon projects in Australia for more than 20 years. We know what it takes to turn an idea into a project, navigate complexity and deliver at scale.

We’ve planted a lot of trees. We also know that no single solution will meet the challenge ahead. Climate change is reshaping our nature, landscapes and livelihoods, and the response needs to be bigger and more ambitious.

That means bringing the right people, science, technology, data and capital together to find what works, back new ideas and take them further.

From carbon outcome to compounding value

[ TEAM ]

20+ years, one team built for what comes next

Carbon markets. Environmental offsets. Project design and delivery. Investment structuring and financing. All have been done separately, and at scale, by this team.

 Dr Marcus Tierney

Chief Executive Officer

Marcus leads CO2 Australia, the company that generated Australia's first ACCUs and wrote the first vegetation methodology administered by the Clean Energy Regulator. He brings more than 25 years advising corporates, investors and governments on complex commercial, regulatory and investment matters, including 14 years as a Partner at PwC. His work spans environmental markets, biodiversity offsets, carbon projects and natural capital investment, and he is the Responsible Manager of CO2's Australian Financial Services Licence. Marcus structures the commercial and governance architecture behind large, long-duration land projects, from acquisition and funding through to stewardship. For investors, he is the point of accountability for portfolio strategy, capital structuring and delivery.

Chris shapes CO2 Australia's strategy and commercial advisory practice, working with governments, corporates and landholders across carbon, biodiversity and regenerative land management. He spent more than 14 years as a Partner at Deloitte, where he founded and led the national Climate Change and Sustainability Division. He has since built and advised ventures applying science, technology and data to climate and nature outcomes, including founding Subak Australia and co-founding ANZ banks 1835iVentures. Chris brings the commercial model design, capital-raising experience and data capability needed to scale nature-based portfolios rather than deliver one-off projects.

Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer

Chris Wilson

Founder and Chair

Ian Trahar

Ian founded CO2 Australia in 2004, establishing one of the country's first commercial carbon businesses well ahead of a formal compliance market. Over his career, he has built and backed ventures spanning mining, forestry, private equity and corporate restructuring, giving the Board a rare blend of operational and transactional expertise. His conviction that land-sector abatement would become an investable asset class underpins CO2's model of long-term land stewardship paired with disciplined commercial structuring. Ian brings a founder's view of risk, patience and capital formation to the company's largest projects, and long-standing relationships across Australian institutional investors, landholders and corporate partners. He continues to guide CO2's strategic direction and its positioning for large-scale carbon and nature-based investment.
